Ceylon or True Cinnamon Kerala
Cinnamon has many health benefits, notable being able to control blood sugar, cholesterol and reducing inflammation of joints there by reducing arthritis pain. It is also effective in keeping bronchial system in great shape.
Cassia cinnamon is not the real cinnamon that we consume today specially after it was banned in EU of its liver damaging compounds. So all the cheap cassia started getting imported to India since last couple of years.
Traditional harvesters will never use these tree for cinnamon, neither is it used for medicine preparation. However since true cinnamon is expensive and not so easily available cassia cinnamon is also used to make ayurvedic medicines nowadays.
I source true cinnamon from Laxmnan a traditional cinnamon harvester who stays close to our house. I am located very close to the famous Anjarkandy Cinnamon Estates which was once spread on more than 1000 acres of true cinnamon plantation. All employees and people dealing in true cinnamon have vanished over the last few years. Some still carry on this process. To process and sell cinnamon license is required so new people have not ventured in this business.
True cinnamon from Ceylon fetches extremely high cost because its really difficult to cut and roll the cinnamon bark skin. Elderly Laxmnan refuses to do that for me. As its not worth the hard work.
Store in a cool dry place, Transfer contents to an airtight container after opening.
Price: 195 rupees for 250 grams inclusive of shipping and handling.
single pack can last for a long time.
PS: True Cinnamon grows wild in our property and near by areas because of bird dropping. Elderly Laxmnan only cuts 5 year old trees nothing less than that. Once cinnamon bark is cut he will not touch the tree for another 5 years.
